Scanning via iPhone Protosthetics Scanning App


Learn how to install and use the Protosthetics Scan & 3D Print app on your iPhone.



Before scanning, open your menu, and click “Settings.” Scroll down to “Scanning with Color,” and then set it to “Per Vertex.” This will ensure your scans come through in color.



Scanning is only available with the front camera. Try attaching a mirror attachment to better see what you’re scanning!If your scans are coming out inverted, go into your iPhone's Settings > Camera > Toggle the Mirror Front Camera setting to off

Written Instructions


  • Go to App Store on your iPhone, search for Protosthetics, and press “Get” to download the (free) app.






  • Open the app. Sign in using your credentials.




  • Starting at the blue hand, swipe to the right. This will open the menu.

Press on Practitioner to add a new practitioner.




  • Fill out the practitioner info



  • Click back twice to reopen the menu. Insert a new patient this time. Then, click the gray arrow at the bottom.



  • Click on the body part you’d like to scan.

For legs, click the knee > then select AK or BK.

Note: To scan for AFOs or SMOs, do not use the AFO scan option. Instead, you will have a smoother experience if you scan using the BK scanner.



  • Take your scan, paying close attention to when it says stop, reposition, or move closer/further away.
